State Semi-Finals: Game 20 @McPherson vs. Bishop Carroll
Despite wasting most all of the first half with the wind, we did get a
huge goal just before half. The BWhite Player of the Match, Molly
Schmidt, carried the ball from the back line to just underneath the
front line (after two charring tackles) before finding Sweeney wide who
then one-touched it to Kutey who punched it by the keeper as their back
made a last ditch effort to clear it off the line. Nope.
Second half we played some very good soccer, owning most all of the
possession. We were our dangerous selves. We missed a couple of
bunnies, had a goal called back, shot 3-4 over the bar, but the point
was, we were holding possession and generating some great opportunities.
Olivia Meyers just had a great match in the middle of the field, and
with Maddie and Dizzy playing so well in the second half, we had our
midfield in sync, and that really made the difference. Annie gave us
some big minutes in the first half when we really needed to win the
center of the field.
Lough had a great save in the second half to keep the score at 2-0.
That was really Carroll's only real opportunity, but it was a good one.
But Molly Schmidt and her center back buddy, Natalie, did a nice job
overall in the center disallowing anything serious.
We played Wichita's best tonight for the 3rd straight year in a row in
the State Semi's. Nice seeding. I love the grit Carroll plays with.
They make you earn everything that you get.
Now we have it all in front of us, one more win and we will have done
this four times in a row. Now, we will have to give Valley Center its
first loss of the season as they stand 20-0. But if we play like we did
in the second half, we will do this.
